Wallpaper/Desktop Backgrounds
Sunday, October 5th, 2008 | art | No Comments
There are many resources for getting desktop backgrounds, but mandolux is one of the best. Not content with providing fabulous images in a wide range of monitor sizes, there are also diptych and triptych image sets for those dual/triple monitor users out there. Check it out. My favorite is this skull flag.
Matchbox Label Collection

I’m an obsessive. I become intensely interested in a subject and go all out researching and experimenting. So it’s not unnatural that I should feel an empathy with others of a similar disposition. Check out this Flickr photostream. Of special interest are the Matchbox Labels. She’s got hundreds of them.
As with most obsessives, she’s got a great eye for design, typography and patterns. Visit her blog.
Enjoy.
Found It—Russian Lubok Movie Scenes
Friday, October 3rd, 2008 | art | No Comments
I’d seen these prints around the web, but I couldn’t find an original link to the artist.
The pictures are contemporary movie scenes rendered as Lubok prints (old Russian folk wood block). The artist (and hence the site) is Russian. See if you can recognise the movies… The text around the images rhymes, in the Lubok tradition. The Terminator text, for example, reads “strange man, clockwork blockhead”.
Anybody know if the prints are for sale? I know you can buy t-shirts.
I can’t speak Russian, but his blog is quite interesting, nonetheless!
A Bibliographic Odyssey

Warning: The following site could engulf hours of your time.
The blog ‘curator’ describes the site as holding “Visual Materia Obscura” and ”Eclectic Bookart”. You’ll find hundreds of entries here covering everything from 16th Century typography manuals to Peruvian Antiques to Cosmographic Books and 18th Century Watercolours of China Girls.
Each entry is full of previews which link to larger images, and accompanied by thoughtful and intelligent commentary listing all sources and further reading/research.
It’s a smorgasbord of delight.

This Austrian company makes tattoos for walls. They have a gallery you can check out. I like this and this.
Nine Drawings While Tripping on Acid
Wednesday, October 1st, 2008 | art | No Comments
This could be a fake. In the 1950s an artist was given a dose of LSD and asked to make drawings while under the influence. These nine drawings chart his progress through the trip.
Drawing number six is particularly good.
Wallpaper

Ah, wallpaper! The curious phenomena of covering the walls of an entire room with a paper pattern.
Now you can re-live the 70s with wallpaperfromthe70s.com.
Choose from dozens of patterns, from florid to surreal to romantic. My only complaint is that the paper samples aren’t big enough!
Be sure to check out the customer photos too.
