Portrait Train-Wrecks

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009 | humor, photography | No Comments

Looking at home snaps and family portraits can be amongst the most tedious of tasks that a person will ever endure in their life. Think about excited parents displaying the latest family shot, or the co-worker who shows you their precious wallet photos. It’s torturous. However, give it a few years and those very-same photo-implements of torture become more statements about the prevailing portrait and fashion style than objects of (dis-)affection. Sexy People holds a collection of single, sibling and family portraits that draw the viewer in. I find a moribund fascination within me wanting to see more and more of these portrait train-wrecks.

Jim Bumgardner, whose computer-generated work we shall revisit in later posts, put together this color picker/Flickr mashup. Choose a color from the picker to get up to twelve photos which feature it as their main color. It’s mesmerising and really appeals to the designer in me.
