C’etait Un Rendez-Vous

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009 | video | No Comments

It’s 1976. A madman races through the streets of Paris to a rendez-vous.

This is the best thing I’ve seen all week.

YouTube Growth

Friday, June 19th, 2009 | video | No Comments

Every minute, YouTube receives 20 hours of video*.

Wrap your head around that. And watch that figure go through the roof when everyone gets their iPhone 3G S, with video capture, video editing, and YouTube uploading built-in.

…And Then My Mom Walked In

Monday, June 8th, 2009 | video | No Comments

Presenting the YouTube “…And Then My Mom Walked In” collection.
Growing up we all have memories of our mom walking in when we were doing something kinda embarrassing, whether it be singing or dancing or whatever. Nowadays a lot of this gets caught on camera and immortalised.

Of course, there are some very understanding moms out there…

How To Take Care of the Hair Down There

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 | video | No Comments

Gillette have produced a set of videos aimed at men’s vanity in an attempt to sell yet more razors. How to take care of the hair down there is just one of the corny lines in this infomercial, another is “trimming the bush makes the tree look taller”.
They also have info on shaving your armpits, back, head…

Kutiman Mixes YouTube

Kutiman Remixes YouTube
You’ve heard audio mash-ups, and we’ve all seen mediocre video mash-ups. Kutiman brings both to a higher level than we’ve seen before in this series of remixes.

GreenPIX video wall

Greenpix are pioneering a zero energy media wall project that had it’s first application in Beijing during the Olympic games. Basically it’s a giant video wall. You can watch demonstrations here, and you can also see how your own movies would look on the greenpix wall. Now, if we could just figure out a way to hook it up to the playstation…

Look Around You

Saturday, November 29th, 2008 | video | No Comments

One of my favorite TV spoofs is the 2002 ‘Look Around You’ episodes, parodying science programs of the late 1970s/early 1980s that featured on BBC2. There are about 10 episodes on YouTube, and you’ll need to set aside a good hour if you want to watch all the episodes. I’d recommend starting with ‘Water’. Watch it. You might learn something.

Lasse Gjertsen’s Hyperactive Editing Style

Monday, November 17th, 2008 | video | No Comments

Lasse Gjertsen has put together a few musical videos using his infamous hyperactive editing style. Check them out on YouTube, they’re well worth a look. I particularly like the ‘Amateur’ video [God, is that link going to attract the wrong crowd!] and the Hyperactive video.

When Advertising Works

Saturday, November 8th, 2008 | video | No Comments

Sometimes an advert will get you thinking. Sometimes an advert will get you smiling. Sometimes an advert will get you wishing that you had a need for that product.

http://www.clustarack.com/

The site starts off with a domino-effect video to present the product, which is basically a rack to hold rolls of paper, but I like it.

Terry Tate Tackles Sarah Palin—Reading Is Important

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008 | video | No Comments

Terry Tate is a fictional American Football linebacker who starred in a series of commercials for Reebok in 2002. He has a unique way of ‘tackling’ those around him who are talking bullshit, as you can see in this video where he deals with a very awkward Sarah Palin bullshitting a question about what she reads.

You can find the other ‘adventures’ of Tate at Return Of Terry Tate.

Soupy Norman

Saturday, October 18th, 2008 | video | No Comments

This is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a long time.

Ireland’s national broadcasting corporation (RTÉ), has taken a popular Polish TV program, Pierwsza milosc (First Love), and spoof-dubbed it into English. The new premise is that of a sheltered and backward County Cork girl who moves to the bright lights of Dublin City. There are 12 episodes, mostly 10 minutes long, all on YouTube, including a pilot episode. Don’t you love that Cork accent? If you liked Father Ted, you’ll like this.

I’ve very kindly put a url to each episode here for you:-

Pilot Episode

Episode 1 – Buttevant

Episode 2 - Margarita

Episode 3 - Taxi

Episode 4 - Doctors

Episode 5 - Niteklub

Episode 6 - Omen

Episode 7 - Straz

Episode 8 - Prodigirl

24 Hour Air Traffic Movie, and More!

Thursday, October 16th, 2008 | video | No Comments

You may have seen this video of the worldwide air traffic over a 24 hour period. There are various encodings of it floating around the web. You can download the highest quality version (.mov) of the movie here.

Meanwhile, the good old BBC have created a series called ‘Britain From Above‘, with some amazing visualisations available on their YouTube channel of data patterns, such as air traffic, sea traffic, telecommunications traffic
